Provides basic nursing skills in an outpatient clinic setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

:

Demonstrates professional, appropriate, effective and tactful written, verbal, and nonverbal communication with patient, families, medical staff, colleagues, vendors, and other departments throughout the continuum of care to promote continuity of care and services and enhance clinic image.

Demonstrates a positive attitude by smiling and being courteous to all patients, co-workers and providers, making every effort to be non-judgmental with comments and conversation.

Participates in orientation and staff development activities as requested.

Participates effectively as a team member in the clinic being accountable, helpful and welcoming to co-workers, providers and patients.

Nursing/CMA

  • Demonstrates ability to recognize and assess emergency needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures as needed.
  • Demonstrates current level of knowledge of various payor regulations by functioning within those guidelines.
  • Acts to facilitate interdisciplinary communication. Utilizes other members of the health care team in assessing the patient and analyzes patient data. Assesses learning needs of the patient and significant others. Gives accurate and complete information to patient and family.
  • Evaluates patient and family understanding of treatment plan and/or instruc­tions.
  • Assists with a variety of procedures, exams and/or operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned (i.e. colposcopy, endos­copy, tympanometry, treadmills, etc.).
  • Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, pro­cedures and medications administered.
  • Accurately and legibly documents all patient interactions in patient record
  • Reports results and pertinent information to patients and health care team members.
  • Functions according to limitations or scope of license or certification.
  • Performs basic nursing functions (vitals, rooming, assist with procedures, etc), under direction and supervision of physician.
  • Maintains professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Work includes cross coverage in other clinic areas as team needs.

Maintains supply inventory and stocks supplies in various work areas.

Responsible for following equipment maintenance protocol, identifying problems, and coordinating appropriate repairs.

Operates various office machines (i.e.. fax, copier, phone and computer).

Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.

Maintains orderly, neat appearance of work area.

Misc. office duties (i.e. copying, filing, retrieval of films/medical records)

Assists with nursing chart audits.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

:

Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

OR Completion of a Practical Nursing or Nursing program.

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within first year of employment and maintained thereafter.

OR Licensed in Iowa as an LPN or RN.

Clinic/physician office experience preferred.

CPR certification

Obtain Mandatory Reporting Certificate within 45 days of hire date.
