VA Central Iowa Health Care System (VACIHCS) is currently accepting applications from a board eligible/board certified Physician responsible for patients with distinct individual profiles inclusive of geropsychiatry, dementia, palliative care, Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM), respite, interim extended care. Prefer applicant specialty to be Physiatry, Geriatrics or Internal Medicine. As a VA Physician, youÂ'll be part of an interdisciplinary care team driven to develop innovative approaches to patient care.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

Must pass pre-employment examination.

Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required.

Background and/or Security Investigation required.

English Language Proficiency required.

DUTIES:
The VA Central Iowa Health Care System provides a full continuum of care between the Des Moines campus and our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCÂ's) and is one of the Medical Centers that make up the VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23). Employee selected may be expected to perform duties at other duty sites within VA Central Iowa Health Care System based on the needs of the organization.

Incumbent is responsible for the medical direction and supervision of care in the Community Living Center (CLC), and Home Base Primary Care (HBPC) program. These units have distinct individual profiles inclusive of geropsychiatry, dementia, palliative care, Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM), respite, interim extended care. Incumbent provides clinical expertise and leadership to the Service Line operations via: activities related to Direct Patient Care per scope of practice; supervision of nurse practitioner(s)/physicians assistant(s) (NP/PAs) as assigned; participation in activities related to direct patient care including interdisciplinary teams, participates in on-call activities as needed; active role in implementing appropriate clinical practice guidelines; implementation of evidence-based approaches with focus on objective outcomes, and ensure all medical record documentation related to his or her practice is complete and timely as per OMS bylaws. Incumbent will be involved in several administrative functions to include chart reviews; advance directive implementation, restraint reduction, etc.

Work hours 8AM-4:30PM Mon-Fri (excludes Federal Holidays)

Physician will have complete access to VA Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).

Relocation Expenses may be authorized.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure. (4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1 .

Must be proficient in spoken and written English .
