The Carver College of Medicine at The University of Iowa seeks candidates for the position of Direct! or of the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine. With approximately 90 faculty members, the Division of General Internal Medicine is the largest division in the Department and has an exceptional record of achievement in our tripartite mission along with a distinguished record of national and international leadership. Our general internists have an extensive clinical footprint in numerous practice sites including, multiple hospital led inpatient services at UIHC and the VA Hospital; a consult service specializing in the medical management of surgical patients; and a growing palliative care service. The sites for outpatient primary care clinics include UIHC, the VA Hospital, and Iowa River Landing (IRL), a newly opened multidisciplinary clinic specifically designed to maximize clinic efficiencies and the patient experience. The Department looks to the Division to be leaders in the education mission providing undergraduate and graduate me! dical education in both didactic and clinical settings as well! as serving and mentors and teachers for learners engaged in the mission of discovery.
The Director is the spokesperson for the faculty of the Division. As The College of Medicine is the major academic medical center in the state of Iowa, The Director serves as a key leader in interactions with physicians throughout the state. Responsibilities include faculty evaluation; recruitment and appointments; educational, clinical and research programs; fiscal planning and management; and short term and long term strategic planning. Education Requirement:
MD degree or equivalent Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a record consistent with appointment as a tenured associate or full professor of internal medicine. They must have an outstanding record of accomplishments in teaching, research, and service, and be eligible for licensure in Iowa. The successful candidate needs to have the demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which excell! ence in teaching, research and scholarship can flourish, as well as experience and interest in developing and leading clinical programs. Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse academic environment is required. Successful candidates will have a record of innovative and effective administrative and fiscal leadership, national stature in academic internal medicine, a record of excellent interpersonal skills, and enjoy interactions with students, staff and faculty.
